Weeds in the Kingdom of Christ

Uncovering Evil Strewn Amongst the Wheat    By Charles Pretlow 02/26/2019

In his teachings, Christ made clear the dangers Christians will face at the end-of-this-age. One very import warning that is often ignored and misunderstood is found in the Parable of the Weeds. (Matthew 13:24-30; 36-43.)

Few in leadership today warn of the evil implanted by Satan throughout the world, in family, and in fellowship. In his parable, Christ is not decrying the wicked hooligan and evil criminal, but rather evil that comes disguised as good.

For so long, the most insidious evil has appeared as a good person. Unfortunately, seldom do sincere Christians detect the presence of a son or daughter of the devil: “The field is the world, and the good seed is the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, and the enemy who sowed them is the devil” (Matthew 13:38-39).

In this parable, Christ teaches us that evil people will look just like a good-hearted Christian (to the untrained eye, the darnel weed and wheat look identical before they mature). There has been such a diluting of Christ’s teachings over the last several generations by leadership, that the term “evil person” or an “evil false-believer,” when expressed, does not properly register in understanding or instill proper threat awareness.

Jesus used the darnel weed as his example, which is commonly known as tares. The darnel weed is a toxic noxious plant that will cause severe symptoms when ingested if mistaken as wheat. In some cases, this toxic plant can cause death.

As these last days race to their end, few Christians can discern a true believer from a hypocritical imposture. The Apostle Paul wrote: “Evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived” (2 Timothy 3:13).

Be honest, how often have you heard a solid exhortation or teaching on evil hidden in society, in family or in fellowship? Not much I dare say!

God’s people are about to be shocked into reality, as the good-evil continues to mature and become very troublesome. Already, God’s angels are exposing hidden evils, as priests, pastors, elders, and volunteers are thrust into the spotlight as molesters of children. Famous Christian leaders, and mega church leaders continue to be big news items, as more fall into public disgrace.

God is removing the veil over the eyes of all, exposing the weeds strewn throughout Christianity. Even still, evil continues to grow in an arrogant mindset that mocks God, as if God does not see the motives and sins of an evil unbelieving heart.

Yet there is another veiled-in-decency evil that is ever growing and attacking others in everyday encounters.

This evil causes great harm in family, work, and fellowship—in every level of our culture, and few believers discern this last day’s work of Satan. This evil has been with us all along, it is like the pharisaical evil that succeeded in crucifying Christ—but is no longer an isolated anomaly, but is now widespread.

Good-evil lives and grows side by side with sincere but naïve believers. The good-evil does not appear instantly as evil, but matures through the years. Ever wonder why Jesus allowed a weed like Judas to stick around? “But there are some of you who do not believe. (For Jesus knew from the beginning who those were who did not believe, and who it was who would betray him.)” (John 6:64).

Jesus identified Judas as a devil from the beginning, Did I not choose you, the Twelve? And yet one of you is a devil” (John 6:70).

Right up until the end, Christ’s disciples were stupefied as to what Judas was all about. That ended when they witnessed Judas betray Jesus with a kiss. Stop and think of the shock the other disciples received when Satan’s good-evil implant betrayed Jesus and caused the disciples to hide for their lives.

God’s plan for allowing Judas to stick around all through those years of Christ’s ministry has many aspects. One of the more important aspects was to teach and train the remaining eleven apostles (and others that follow) in what I call Christ’s “Judas Training Program.”

We see how effective this training was when Peter heard through the Holy Spirit that Ananias was a weed sent by the devil to be implanted amongst the wheat: “But Peter said, Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land?” (Acts 5:3).

The background for this evil act started when a believer named Joseph sold some property and laid the proceeds at the Apostles feet. Word got out about how these funds helped needy believers. Ananias and his wife heard of this contribution, and how everyone appreciated Joseph’s financial help. This couple (Ananias and Sapphira) decided to sell a piece property and give the money to the Apostles as well, however they conspired to keep a portion of the money back for their own use, and decided to tell Peter that they, like Joseph, gave all the proceeds from the sale to the church.

Peter knew how important it was to the Holy Spirit that both Ananias with his wife Sapphira be stopped cold from entering the fellowship of the new church as liars and deceivers—to gain recognition and notoriety as good-hearted saints. (To find out what happened to these two false Christians, read Acts 5:1-11.)

Where are today’s leaders like Peter, who are trained to discern evil weeds implanted amongst God’s people? Every true follower of Christ must learn to hear from the Holy Spirit correctly to expose evil and its harmful threat. Instead, it is common for evil to bring cart loads of money into fellowship, and have leadership pave evil’s way into notoriety, hold prominent positions in fellowship, and subtly receive the moniker of sainthood.

Satan’s Use of His Noxious Weeds in the Last Days

Spiritually Energizing his Fifth-Column Implanted within the Kingdom of Christ

In addition to the extraordinary rise of false teachers and false prophets in these last days, there comes a different kind of satanic war upon the saints. There is now an extreme threat by everyday so-called Christians who appear righteous and good but are in truth living lies that are naturally toxic.

Their inner nature is a total lie. These imposters are like the unbelieving Pharisees who naturally lived a lie like their father the devil: “You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies” (John 8:44).

Over the last fifty years, the rise of false teachings has allowed Satan to universally salt the ranks of fellowships and congregations with his evil servants. A mass infiltration of weeds has grown amongst the wheat. These are carnally driven imposters that pray, minister, lead, and work in communities of faith as satanic spiritual gangsters disguised as saints.

Like Judas, these implanted devils use Christ’s name in prayer and ministry, and these activities are accompanied with spiritual power. Jesus warned of this type of false Christian: “On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’” (Matthew 7:22-23).

In this passage, Jesus did not question the spiritual works of these imposters. They did cast out demons, prophesy, and do many mighty works. This passage is in context of Christ’s warning about false prophets: “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?” (Matthew 7:15-16).

Through false conversions and false teachings there is a last days rise of many deceivers and imposters operating in a destructive spiritual power, using Christ’s name but not in the power of Christ. Though they use Christ’s name prominently, but Jesus will declare he never knew them.

Many deceived and false Christians have and are being lured into working for Jesus in the power of their own spirit, never being warned, taught, and disciplined by the Lord to die to their own emotional and spiritual strength. They work faithfully for the cause of Christ as directed by false teachings, deceived leadership, and many false leaders. They work for a different Christ, but the true Christ does not know them, let alone spiritually empower or work through these false Christians.

The Christian Witchcraft Syndrome

The Rise of Sorcery through Carnal Prayers

Satan has succeeded in implanting imposters amongst God’s people who operate in spiritual power that Scripture calls sorcery. Sorcery is identified in the Apostles Paul’s list of “the works of the flesh”: “Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God (Galatians 5:19-21).

Christians walking in the flesh often practice many of these acts and attitudes of heart in secret knowingly, and sometimes unknowingly. Many are blinded to their own motives of insecurity, greed, jealousy, rivalries (competitive approach to life and ministry), manipulative and controlling, in idolatry of self, and operating in their own spiritual power which is called sorcery.

Simply put, Christian sorcery is praying not according God’s will and timing, but lawlessly driven to prayer by their impure motives of heart, attempting to pray their own will be done on earth instead of God’s will. Immature and false leaders make it a practice to enlist carnal and false Christians to pray wrongly. The results can be far reaching and very destructive.

One of the most damning teachings of demons (see 1 Timothy 4:1) was spawned by Rick Warren through his Purpose Driven Life and Purpose Driven Church writings. Millions of Christians are lured into finding their purpose in serving Christ, only to be deceived in following and serving a self-serving leader.

These deceived, carnal Christians are driven by wrong motives to help build up fellowship, make converts to false doctrine (not to the true Christ), or minister tirelessly as volunteers doing church work and raising funds. The biggest purpose driven call to prayer and church work is to convert the world to Christ.

Most lured into this and other false movements and teachings develop into a weed. Few ever learn to be led by the Holy Spirit and allow their inner motives to be made pure in the discipline of the Lord.

The spiritual power of a carnally driven Christian has a power that can cause great harm to others and in most cases their prayers oppose God’s will in matters of concern. Through years of ministry, I have seen firsthand and suffered from the toxic influence of carnal and false Christian prayers.

Not only spiritual manipulation upon the minds of the undiscerning, but the evil physical and emotional harm they cause is insidious and often deadly. They can direct spiritual power in prayer or through pent up rage and jealousy toward those who come under their radar. The “impure in heart” of a carnal Christian, or a false Christian acting and praying as a saint is one of Satan’s most powerful last days weapon.

Most in this condition are in gross denial of any inner motives of evil selfishness, and naturally channel the devil’s power against the true saint, in opposition to God’s will.

Few allow Christ to reveal and correct impure motives of heart in order to be led by the Holy Spirit in prayer. Many are driven by a satanic spirit in their prayers. True leaders are called to confront carnally driven prayers, by following Christ’s teachings and examples, such as this one: “And he sent messengers ahead of him, who went and entered a village of the Samaritans, to make preparations for him. But the people did not receive him, because his face was set toward Jerusalem. And when his disciples James and John saw it, they said, “Lord, do you want us to tell fire to come down from heaven and consume them?” But he turned and rebuked them” (Luke 9:52-55). [Some manuscripts add, “And he said, ’You do not know what manner of spirit you are of; for the Son of Man came not to destroy people’s lives, but to save them.’”]

Deceived carnal Christians do not know what manner of spirit drives them, and as for the evil implant, they could care less.

 Liberation Theology Recruiting Weeds

Impostures, Cheerleaders, Caretakers, and Enablers

David Wilkerson, in his book The Vision published in 1974, prophetically wrote of the rise of a union of Protestant denominations and the Catholic Church that would form a super world church.

“I see the formation of a super world church consisting of a union between liberal ecumenical Protestants and the Roman Catholic church, joining politically hand in hand, creating one of the most powerful religious forces on earth.

This super world church will be spiritual in name only, freely using the name of Jesus Christ, but will, in fact, be antichrist and political in many of its activities. This powerful church union will be deeply involved in social action, tremendous charity programs, and ministries of compassion… I see an army of career people invading the most influential posts in this super church organization. Many of them will be ungodly, antichrist people, obsessed with the concept that this super church must be a political power, strong enough to put pressure on all those who oppose its actions. While those in the highest post of leadership will be speaking about miracles, love, and reconciliation, hirelings who work under them will be harassing and persecuting those religious organizations opposed to their leadership.” David Wilkerson, The Vision (Pyramid Communications, Inc., New York, New York, copyright David Wilkerson Youth Crusades, 1974, pp. 76-77)

Not only has the liberal Protestant denominations hooked up with the Roman Catholic Church in an ecumenical agenda, but also many Charismatic, and Evangelical factions of Christianity are now embracing a dangerous form of Liberation Theology. Many of these “normally considered” conservative churches may not join the now forming super world church that Wilkerson saw in his vision. However, they are embracing a social works approach to ministry that does little in bringing those they help to Christ and making disciples of our Lord.

Note: Liberation Theology is defined as a movement in Christian theology, developed mainly by Latin American Roman Catholics, that emphasizes liberation from social, political, and economic oppression as an anticipation of ultimate salvation.

We are seeing an army of career orientated false Christians swell the ranks of fast-growing fellowships and mega churches who want to help the poor, the homeless, and the downtrodden out of their poverty.

As for the struggling Christian coming to these fast growing seeker friendly churches, they are bathed in false promises of prosperity, and given high doses of false spirit manifestations. Pastors and worship leaders have sold themselves to idolizing false worship that conjures human spiritualism that becomes trance inducing, numbing impure issues of heart.

False prophets prophesy out of their own spirit, aided by a demonic spirit of divination. False teachers help the deceived and naïve believers develop a self-made or pseudo Christian personality and drive their followers to harden their heart to the discipline and transforming power of the Holy Spirit.

Christ and the Apostles warned repeatedly of a last days rise of the false and evil-good weeds misleading the masses: “But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their licentiousness, and because of them the way of truth will be reviled. And in their greed they will exploit you with false words; from of old their condemnation has not been idle, and their destruction has not been asleep” (2 Peter 2:1-3).

These greedy false leaders enlist gullible Christians to financially support their carnal good works. Like Judas, when he rebuked Mary for anointing Jesus with costly ointment: “But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (he who was to betray him), said, ‘Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?’ This he said, not that he cared for the poor but because he was a thief, and as he had the money box he used to take what was put into it” (John 12:4-6).

False teachings and false leaders draw in Satan’s weeds and imposters for the work of ministry, and grow to become shallow cheerleaders. These offer human services and ministry, but avoid confronting wrongdoing and wrong attitudes through sound counsel and accountability. Rather these professionals who dispense Christ’s name in various forms of aid do not present the Gospel of Christ. Rather they dispense soothing-caretaking words and aid that enables bitterness and hardness that forms a cheap grace entitlement attitude of heart.

They enable a victim-entitlement mentality that resists conviction of sinfulness such as drug and alcohol use, relationship abuse and family dysfunction and the fact that they suffering wrong for wrong doing. These weed-workers are in ministry to get hurting people to idolize and follow them, not Christ. Just as the Apostle Paul warned, so these last day’s wolves prowl without any constraint, “I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves will arise men speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them” (Acts 20:29-30).

Many of the false enlist naïve Christians to fight political causes, just as David Wilkerson wrote, “Many of them will be ungodly, antichrist people, obsessed with the concept that this super church must be a political power, strong enough to put pressure on all those who oppose its actions.”

To add to David’s prophetic vision, those confronting these hirelings and false workers will be maligned, ridiculed, suffer slanderous gossip, and be spiritually attacked. The weeds will attempt to drive true servants of Christ away from their call to preach Christ and his saving grace for the contrite in heart and repentant. The spiritual power of a weed through their prayers is dangerous and often deadly.

This describes just one type of weed that Satan has strewn amongst God’s people. There are other types that are hirelings and wolves in sheep clothing. Again, they may a pastor, lead the choir, teach Sunday school, mentor, and become stalwart volunteers who will viciously turn on a sincere believer who walks in the truth of Christ’s Gospel.

Detecting and Chasing Out a Satanic Weed in Time

It has taken me years of training and many heart-ache experiences in learning to properly detect, confront and chase out false Christians. An additional challenge was learning to patiently instruct those in my care and those in leadership training on how to walk in discernment for themselves.

What has helped immensely is to preach, teach, and exhort on all of Christs teachings and sayings. Today, the harder teachings of Christ are left out purposely by most leaders. In very few cases, a pastor may ignorantly ignore those harder teachings. However, the true motive for avoiding the harder teachings of Christ is fear of men. Jesus and His apostles were not afraid to make the game players and the false feel uncomfortable to the point repenting or fleeing fellowship.

Individual battles were many—exposing and chasing out molesters of children, fornicators, drunkards, Jezebel and Ahab character-centered false Christians—also learning not to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Many wounded and doubleminded believers had red flags pop up, but still had faith. The challenge was to patiently help the struggling Christian who acted out some of the traits of a false Christian, and to boldly and swiftly chase out the confirmed evil false believer.

Few in leadership have learned by way of Christ’s school of ministry on how to walk in the full counsel of God, and to not cower in adversity and how to avoid becoming men pleasers.

The Apostle Paul exhorts leadership to drive out the false Christian and satanic weed by the following: “I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people— not at all meaning the sexually immoral of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world. But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one. For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? God judges those outside. ‘Purge the evil person from among you.’” (1 Corinthians 5:9-13).

Further, the Apostle instructs us in Romans to avoid such evil: “I appeal to you, brethren, to take note of those who create dissensions and difficulties, in opposition to the doctrine which you have been taught; avoid them. For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by fair and flattering words they deceive the hearts of the naïve. For while your obedience is known to all, so that I rejoice over you, I would have you wise as to what is good and guileless as to what is evil; then the God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you” (Romans 16:17-20).

The Coming Harvest of the Wheat and the Tares

The Great Falling Away and Mass Betrayal is Just Around the Corner

Now is the time to commit to Christ’s Judas Training Program. Learn from Scripture and the discipline of the Lord to discern weeds and learn to avoid them. Few move from the milk of the word and go on to maturity: “But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil” (Hebrews 5:14).

Time is running out to learn the easy way, for soon God will begin his exposing and vetting process throughout Christianity. When the God’s exposing and vetting process is in full swing, the hidden evil weed and false believer will become very problematic because of their entanglement with the sincere, but naïve believer. At that time, the effects of separating will be toxic and dangerous, where many unprepared Christians will be betrayed by the weeds in their life.

As the end of this age rolls to its climax, a universal persecution madness will come against every true Christian, (in varying degrees, but still be intense for all). The coming persecution from the world and false Christianity will help bring to light Satan’s implanted weeds and start a betrayal process just like Judas betraying Christ and his fellow apostles.

“Then they will deliver you up to tribulation, and put you to death; and you will be hated by all nations for my name’s sake. And then many will fall away, and betray one another, and hate one another (Matthew 24:9-10).

In the Parable of the Weeds, Jesus concludes: The harvest is the close of the age, and the reapers are angels. Just as the weeds are gathered and burned with fire, so will it be at the close of the age. The Son of man will send his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all evildoers” (Matthew 13:39-41).

Do not confuse the rapture with the angel’s work of gathering all causes of sin and evildoers from within the true body of Christ at the end of this age. There has already started a “come away call” for the true saint. To separate from all close relationships with false Christians, evil weeds, and evildoers and die to any unhealthy spiritual and emotional ties to such people.

Jesus said of this coming hour, “Remember Lot’s Wife,” and speaking of the coming persecution and the Great Tribulation—these hard times that are now approaching swiftly will act as God’s vetting and purification process that will form the pure bride of Christ—to become rapture ready: “These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb” (Revelation 7:14).

Give Christ permission to expose issues within your own heart that hinders your ability to come away from the love of this age, and blinds you to the weeds you are entangled with. Be prepared for the shocking truth and suffering that will most likely come in the process.
